Where to stay in Miami

Where is the best area to stay in Miami?

The first thing to say is that is not the same Miami Beach that Miami. Miami Beach is a separate municipality and a world by itself where people look for the beach, party and have fun. South Beach is the most valued area but in general the hotels in Miami Beach are more expensive and lower quality.

If you what you want  is to stay in Miami downtown, in a good hotel near the financial district, or the port to take a cruise or just be close to the Miami Beach, the Downtown area that is shown on the map is the best.

Some opinions about where to stay

"If you are wanting to stay in Miami and have something to do at night, I'd recommend staying in Coconut Grove. Coconut Grove is a nice little area to hang out at night. Nice little restaurants, a comedy club and a couple of nice little bars.

"I've stayed at several hotels in and around Miami for both cruises and other vacations. There are many that would suite your needs perfectly. However... what I feel is a good deal, another might not. Too many personal variables to consider. If price is not a major concern... Booking the Intercontinental Downtown Miami would be my first choice for pre and post cruise accomodation."

"South beach is the best and liveliest area to stay in Miami. Hotels in south beach can be expensive but there are a few reasonable ones. You want something either on Ocean drive or Collins ave. If you do Collins try not to get anything higher than the 1800 block, as you will be kind of far from everything."

"The best location is South Beach. But downtown Miami which has its own lively bar & restaurant scene is certainly better than the suburban-industrial airport area."

What people said about the hotels and the area

Mandarin Oriental: "Perfect place for peace and quiet but still right in the city. Situated on a little island means no traffic noise or pollution. I was skeptical about the location and lack of beach access, but I actually liked staying in Brickell rather than South Beach. I also didn't mind the "private beach" area at all and loved the pool so I didn't miss the true beach."

Four Seasons Hotel Miami: "After years of searching for a good Miami hotel, and coming close with the new Mandarin Oriental, this finally solves the problem of where to stay. For a holiday stay, this is not the best location as it is located in Downtown. South Beach is far away and should be the place to stay."

EPIC Hotel: "The EPIC Hotel in Miami is one of the best hotels in the entire country. It is the crown jewel in the Kimpton family. The staff is extremely curtious and attentive. The hotel is not on Miami Beach, and it is a $25 cab ride to get there. If you plan to spend a lot of time on Miami Beach, then stay at a hotel there."

Viceroy Miami: "We love the viceroy and would recommend it to anyone considering staying in Miami. Service was great, the location is very close to all the best things to do in Miami." .

Tempo Miami: "I selected this hotel because of the close proximity to the Port of Miami. The place was exceptionally clean, beautifully decorated, and the service was paramount."

Conrad Miami: "When I think Miami, I think 'South Beach' or "just" beach or Mojitos but not - 'Financial District' so color me pleasantly surprised with my stay at the Conrad. I recommend this Hotel for the business traveler just in for a few days or the vacationing couple that just need a place to sleep while they enjoy all that is Miami."

JW Marriott Miami: "Good hotel with loads of nice facilities: pool, gym etc Good location in downtown Miami, but you need a car to get to the beach. Recommended."

Hotel InterContinental Miami: "I've been going to the Hotel InterContinental for years. Love the service. Love the food and the location. A definite must if in Miami for business or pleasure!"

Hotel Urbano: "The hotel is a really good base if for site seeing in Miami as it is very near the highways, it is a 20 minute drive to South Beach and about 10 minutes to Coral Gables and Coconut Grove. These are all areas which I would recommend that you visit whilst in Miami. On our first night in Miami we went to Mary Brickell Village which is about a 5 minute drive from the hotel. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in this area and the atmosphere was really good."

Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay: "I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling to Miami. The location is perfect! We were minutes from both South Beach and Bayside!"

Fortune House Hotel: "I stayed at Fortune House for one night before a cruise. It's a perfect place for a pre cruise stay."

Continental Bayside Hotel: "We were going on a cruise and we booked one night stay at this hotel. Could not wait to leave, would never return, the reason this hotel is in business is the location to the port of Miami and the daily cruises that leave."
