Some reviews about where to stay

"Almost any downtown hotel would be great. If you stay nearer to Michigan Ave. more things are within walking distance. Plus an added benefit is the free trolley that runs along that area."

"Michigan Ave is great for shopping and just north of there is a decent area called "gold coast" for hanging out during the day. Not a bad area to start if you've never been to Chicago - try to stay as far north on Michigan as you can."

"Stay downtown and skip the rental car. Anywhere along the Magnificent mile or Michigan ave would work the best. The area is very nice, beautiful arcitecture, safe for wandering around, tons of shopping and dining choices."

"Downtown area is the spot to be because it's near all the fun traveller sights. It's not my favorite part of city, but it is convenient and fun. Since it's your first voyage, I would definitely suggest that area."

Some opinions about the hotels and the area

Some reviews about the hotels and the locations.

Elysian Hotel Chicago: "We have stayed at many Chicago hotels and this was the best. Loved the staff, the rooms, the spa and the pool. They even had kids toys and floats for the kids. The hotel is located in an area that's convenient to many restaurants and other popular attractions."

Trump International Hotel: "Wonderful stay at a very lovely hotel. The location is hard to beat. You have easy access to Michigan Ave and Millenium Park and restaurants galore are within walking distance. Once we learned our way around the area it became obvious just how good the location is."

Hotel Palomar Chicago: "One of my favorite places to stay in chicago. The hotel staff is genuine, the rooms are spacious and clean, mid-century modern with softer lines. I love their beds and the blackout shades! Great location for business and pleasure."

Conrad Chicago: "This was a perfect place to stay for a recent business trip to Chicago. Rooms are gorgeous and easy to move around in, the hotel staff is friendly and helpful, the location is excellent. I recommend the Conrad and will stay here again."

Sofitel Chicago Water Tower: "Super well located, easy and safe walk to everywhere I wanted to go - all of the Michigan Avenue shopping, Rush Street, Looking Glass Theater, Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Institute, etc. Definitely the place to stay when you aren't royalty, but want to be treated like one."

The Talbott Hotel: "We were pleasantly-surprised at the great location - in the Gold Coast area and easy walking distance to the great shopping on Michigan Avenue. We took the train - and didn't need to spend very much on cabs due to the great location. We surely would stay here again."

Hotel Monaco Chicago: "We loved the location. It was centrally located to almost all the attractions we wanted to see. We were able to quickly catch public transportation to other attractions. So much to do in Chicago, we wish we could have stayed longer!"

Hotel Burnham - A Kimpton Hotel: "The hotel is very charming, located in the middle of town (the loop) , within walking distance to the Millennium park and other attractions in the area. For sure will recommend to my friends when they visit Chicago!"

The Westin Chicago River North: "We enjoy staying at Westin hotels and picked this location out of the options within the downtown Chicago area. The location can't be beat as it's right by the river with access to the Theatre District, Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier and the Millienium Park."

Hard Rock Hotel Chicago: "This property is at the perfect location for all the tourist attractions downtown. All the staff we came in contact with were professional and pleasant. We would definitely stay at a Hard Rock Hotel again."

Four Seasons Hotel Chicago: "Stayed over Easter weekend with an old friend. The service is impeccable at the Four Seasons and the whole trip was a blast. Loved the location (at the northern end of the Magnificent Mile) and access to shopping was so easy."

Homewood Suites by Hilton: "For quality and price you can't go wrong with the Homewood Suites Chicago Downtown. The location is great, we could walk to so many places. The Navy Pier free trolley stops just a block or so away. The Mag Mile is just a block or two over. We really just walked almost everywhere we needed to go."

Hampton Inn Majestic Chicago: "Booked this through hotels.com, $150 for the night, which seems a wee bit high, but if you want a high standard in downtown Chicago, then not a bad price. This hotel has a wonderful location. The CTA is on the corner, and so is the bus stop to take you across town. The hotel is also walking distance to great shopping, millenium park and great restaurants."

Comfort Suites: "This was our second time using Comfort Suites-Michigan Ave for our business trip to Chicago and we were just as impressed as the first time. From start to finish, this is the hotel you want if you have business in Chicago."

Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago: "We stayed here for a 2 day business meeting in Chicago that went very smoothly thanks to the wonderful hotel staff. Best thing about hotel is its location. A few minutes walk from most major attractions and surrounded by excellent restaurants. Despite good location it is also a comparatively quiet area and there are no problems with external noise."

Fairfield Inn: "The downtown Chicago Fairfield Inn is a hidden gem in Chicago's downtown. Located on a tree lined street one block from the Magnificent Mile and 15 minute walk to the lake, we felt we were in a quiet hidden neighborhood in the city.  Next time I come to Chicago this is the only place i will try to stay."
