Some reviews about where to stay

Some opinions and advices about places to stay in London:

"Given your goals and cost criteria, you have lots of choices about where to stay. I would focus upon options in the neighborhoods surrounding Holborn and Bloomsbury ( located close to British Museum, west end theaters & main sights such as Trafalgar Sq., Piccadilly etc. ). Also consider the Mayfair section which places you near Hyde Park and the main shopping districts on Oxford and Regent Streets and borders posh Park Lane."

"The main touristy area to stay is the "West End", but that has lots of sub-areas, some of which overlap or are different sizes. So if your hotel is described as "West End", or "Hyde Park Corner", or "Edgware Road", or "W2", they might all be descriptions for the same place. If you look at the Underground map the "West End" is basically the left hand half of the area inside the Circle Line (the yellow one). Do not choose a hotel outside the Circle Line without a good understanding of exactly where it is."

"Ideal for your stay you should look for something in Zone 1 area of the tube map. You won't be able to visit all the attractions by walking so you will need to use the tube, therefore, I would really worry too much about the location as long as its in Zone 1"

"I like the West End area between Marylebone High Street and Oxford Circus (I used to live there). Oxford Street itself is a zoo, but the streets just north of Wigmore Street are quieter. You're close to the theatre district, to West End shopping, to Bloomsbury and Regent's Park. There are several different tube lines, so it's easy to get around."

Some opinions about the hotels and their location

Hotel 41: "I have been traveling to London for work for many years and I have stayed at London's finest hotels. This was my first stay at this hotel and it is simply the best hotel in London. The hotel is centrally located so all attractions were easily reachable. Ideal place to stay in London."

The Halkin: "The area around the hotel felt safe to walk around at night and everywhere seemed easy to access. We walked to Buckingham Palace, the theatre in Victoria and caught numerous trains and buses from Hyde Park Corner just a couple of minutes up the road. Great hotel in the best area to stay in London."

The Soho Hotel: "We absolutely loved the location in Soho area. We walked to most attractions in all areas of the city. The hotel itself is surrounded by some great bars (The Ship!), pastry spots, and restaurants."

Sofitel St. James London: "The hotel's excellent location, within walking distance to shops, close to theatre and museums and good value are its best features."

The Sumner Hotel: "The location is perfect -- we were able to walk everywhere and if a tube or bus was needed the Marble Arch underground was two blocks away. There is also a wonderful pub right around the corner! We highly recommend the hotel and would stay there again when back to London"

The Stafford Hotel: "Easy walking distance to Piccadilly Circus right in the heart of town, but very peaceful area. Service was first class. Loved the American Bar. Pure Luxury!!!!"

InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel: "The hotel is in a fantastic neighborhood perched between the corners of Hyde Park and Green Park. The Hyde Park tube station is a two minute walk and the Green Park tube station a five minute walk, which gives you a lot of flexibility getting around London. A scenic stroll through Green Park has you arriving on the doorstep of Buckingham Palace. Great hotel, best area."

The Goring: "Recently stayed at this hotel which is becoming a popular London hotel. We spent a weekend here to celebrate our anniversary, booked a westend play and did some shopping & sight seeing. The hotel was a short walking distance to see Wicked, Victoria Station, Buckingham Palace and tour bus stops."

Marriott London Park Lane: "Stayed at the hotel for New Year’s Eve. A quality hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The central location made it a pleasant walk through Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace, Harrods, and Victoria and Albert Museum. I would definitely recommend staying here while touring London."

Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel: "This hotel is ideal for shopping addicts. It is located just a few steps from Sloane Street, Harrods can be reached in about five minutes. Fantastic place and area."

Rubens At The Palace: "Brought my daughter for her 18th birthday and had a lovely stay here. The location by the palace was close to Victoria tube as well as Green Park and St. Johns Park(my favorite for an early morning daily walk-beautiful pond and waterfowl!)."

The Cavendish London: "I really enjoyed my stay here. A short walk to a couple of train stops, Buckingham Palace, Chinatown and theater district. Overall an excellent stay. Would highly recommend to friends looking for a comfortable stay with London on the doorstep."

Flemings Mayfair Hotel: "A superb boutique hotel well positioned opposite Green Park in Mayfair, indeed its location just off Piccadilly on Half Moon Street is ideal for the London holidaymaker or business traveller (my wife and I were both on this occasion). A brilliant hotel in a fantastic location - ideal for anyone wishing to stay in London."

The Sanctuary House Hotel: "Marvellous location - perfect for tourist stuff, less than 1 min to the tube, within walking distance of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, etc. The area is a mixture of offices, shops and tourist attractions, nice balance. We will stay there again."

The Leonard Hotel: "The location was fantastic, at the end of Oxford St so an easy walk to Trafalger Sq, Parliament, Whitehall, Leicester Sq and Bukingham Palace. It took us 25mins to get to Theatre Land on foot. It is the sister hotel to The Warwick in New York, where I stayed on my honeymoon.. I would recommend the Leonard to anyone."

Hazlitt's: "The location is superb, in the center of everything. We spent nine nights there on our last visit and never needed to take a taxi or the Tube once, although several Tube stations are in easy walking distance. Dozens and dozens of theatres are within a few minutes' walk. The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are 5-10 minutes' easy walk. So is Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street shopping, Covent Garden. Everything is handy. Many great pubs are in the area, and whatever nightlife you fancy is right there of course. It's Soho! Our favorite place in London."

Searcy's Roof Garden Rooms: "Searcy's Roof Garden Rooms was a great and central place to stay in central London. It is close to Harrod's and with easy access to public transportation while the hotel is in a quiet street. Perfect family stay in London."

Edward Lear Hotel: "We stayed here for 4 days on a site seeing break in London. Good location: Oxford Street and Marble Arch Station just round the corner."

Stanley House: "I stayed for one night in this hotel before going to Liverpool and all i can say is that the location is amazing, very close to the Victoria Station, Buckingham palace, London Eye, Big Ben... You can walk everywhere! I will stay there again fo sure!"

Vandon House: "I needed a place to stay for one night, before heading to Brighton to meet up with spouse. I booked a single with a shared bath. The price was less than 50 pounds, and for London, that is a great deal! It was close to sights, Victoria Station, St. James Park. Great place and central location."
